Sandy Beach, Cohasset

 

Generations of families have enjoyed the white sand at Sandy Beach since its development in 1917. Set aside for the use of Cohasset residents, this private barrier beach is owned and managed by the Sandy Beach Association. The Town of Cohasset owns the beach parking lot. Summer lifeguards are on duty through Labor Day.

 

Local Tip: Some South Shore beaches are known for their rocky shorelines. Duxbury Beach Park is one example. Make sure every member of family has sturdy footwear for walking on the beach.

 

Minot Beach, Scituate

 

One of five public beaches operated by the Town of Scituate, Minot Beach has a sandy beach with views of Minot Light and Massachusetts Bay. Lifeguards staff Minot Beach from late June through Labor Day. A Scituate beach sticker is required for four parking spots at The Glades, 26 parking spots at the lot on Bailey's Causeway East, and 75 parking spots at the lot on Bailey's Causeway West.

Three miles long, Humarock Beach features stretches of sand and stretches of rock. This barrier beach lies between the Atlantic Ocean and South River. Legally part of Scituate, Humarock Beach is accessible only from Ferry Street of Route 3A in North Marshfield.

 

Rexhame Beach, Marshfield

 

Part of the same barrier island where Humarock Beach is located, Rexhame Beach offers white sand, seasonal lifeguards, and a snack bar. Facilities include restrooms, concessions and parking a short walk away.

 

Brant Rock Beach, Marshfield

 

This public beach with seasonal lifeguards is known for its jetty, scenic rocky outcropping, white sand beach, and esplanade along Ocean Street.

Green Harbor Beach in Marshfield, MA

Long and wide with white sand, Green Harbor Beach is accessible at the end of Beach Street in Marshfield. Lifeguards are on staff during the summer.

 

Local Tip: The average ocean temperature along South Shore beaches in July is about 68 degrees F. Hot, sunny days are the best for a refreshing dip in the ocean.

 

Duxbury Beach Park, Duxbury

 

A wooden causeway leads to the oceanfront of this six-mile-long beach. Duxbury Beach is generally rocky with white sand along the water’s edge. Drive across the causeway to access a paved parking lot where Duxbury residents can park for free with a beach sticker. Non-Duxbury residents pay $20 to park. There is a small parking lot at the start of the causeway bridge where you can park for free and then walk across the bridge.

 

Gray’s Beach Park, Kingston

 

Gray’s Beach Park is maintained by the Town of Kingston and features a sandy beach, a grassy area, picnic pavilion, a boardwalk, playground, plus a tennis court and a basketball court. A Town of Kingston parking sticker is required to park at Gray’s Beach.

Three miles long, this barrier beach is open late May through Labor Day. Parking is available in the Day Parking Area, the Fishermen's Turnaround, the Landing Parking Lot, and designated parking areas along Ryder Way.

 

Scusset Beach State Reservation, Sagamore

 

Scusset Beach State Reservation features 1.5 miles of oceanfront for walking, sunning, and swimming. This state property also has a nature center, seasonal lifeguards, and a campground with 98 RV sites with hookups and five tent sites.
