Anywhere you live, it's important to know where health care services are located. Here's an overview of where Cape Cod medical facilities and hospitals are located. As you decide just where to buy a home on Cape Cod, be sure to compare the location and availablity of the services you need against where your prospective home is located.

Cape Cod Healthcare

Cape Cod Healthcare is the primary healthcare provider on Cape Cod. Their website shows that most of their facilities are located in the Upper Cape, Mid-Cape, and Lower Cape. These regions have physicians' offices, pain centers, lab service centers, and outpatient services, as well two Cape Cod Healthcare hospitals.

Keep in mind, however, that Cape Cod Healthcare facilities and services are concentrated in that Upper Cape, Mid-Cape, and Lower Cape area. The Outer Cape has only two Cape Cod Healthcare locations, which are Visiting Nurses Association satellite offices in Provincetown and in Wellfleet.

Local Tip: Cape Cod's most extensive health care services are located in the Lower Cape, Mid-Cape, and Upper Cape.

Cape Cod Hospitals

The Cape Cod Healthcare system includes two hospitals located in Falmouth and Hyannis.

Falmouth Hospital has 95 beds and one of the busiest emergency centers in Massachusetts during the summer months. Cape Cod Hospital, located in Hyannis, is a 259-bed acute care hospital. Its emergency center sees 84,000 patients on an annual basis.

Falmouth Hospital and Cape Cod Hospital are the only hospitals on Cape Cod.

Outer Cape Health Services

The main health care provider for the Outer Cape is Outer Cape Health Services. There are Outer Cape Health centers in Provincetown, Wellfleet, and Harwich.

Outer Cape Health Services offers primary care physicans and specialists in cardiology, pulmonary, infectious diseases, HIV care, and hand and shoulder orthopedics.

A radiology department operates out of the Provincetown center. Patient exams are sent to radiologists at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

Cape Cod Emergency Health Care

Falmouth Hospital and Cape Cod Hospital both provide emergency care, but the drive from the Outer Cape to the nearest hospital emergency room can take an hour, without traffic.

Each of these emergency centers tracks wait times online. Keep in mind that wait times are affected by time of day, day of the week, and by whether it's the off season or the summer season.

Cape Cod Urgent Care Centers

Cape Cod Healthcare operates urgent care centers in Falmouth and Hyannis, plus at the Stoneman Outpatient Center in Sandwich and the Fontaine Outpatient Center in Harwich. The centers are open with extending evening and weekend hours.
